Adobe Photoshop

Hand drawn animation scans

We moved onto looking into a good example for gif, the file was called ‘jump’, I think made by Jay Payne himself. He wanted to show us a process in how to output into a movie as well.  We did our own little experimentation on this document. Initially we did the same thing we had done on our own document but this time we did not save for web, we opened up render video and changed the preset to medium quality.  This way we made out own mini movie with the jump. Unfortunately I accessed the computer that did not allow me to save the video on the desktop, after the 4th attempt, I decided to restart the computer and again I received the same situation. It only allowed me to save it on my memory stick, which did not appear until I restarted the computer.  I must say that I did learn better in this session because I repeated the process 4 times, which effectively stayed in my mind.  I will always remember to bring my memory stick to prevent situation like this.

If we was doing something that is built in multiple layers, graphical build up, we could use animation gif to show how we build it up in layers, as my work in earth artifact where I used multiple layers. I think it is worth a try to use, as an experiment.Below is my outcome, it is very simple, however i still did enjoy the whole process.

The third task was relating to making videos.  Using video layers work the similar way to gifs but with a few differences.  As before where we clicked and selected the layers before we made the frame timeline, in this we did not need to select layers and we created a bank video layer, selected from the layer tool.  On the timeline frame we selected the tool on the side as before but this time clicked on set timeline frame rate and typed in 12 seconds.  Make sure you clicked on the setting, which is called set playback options and select loop.  I made sure to select the layer on timeline before making marks on the board and every time I made a mark I had to click on next frame to put my next marks. I noticed that I could not see the previous marks I drew so I went on the timeline option and selected enable onion skins which allows me to see exactly what I had before. This is my outcome. We did not have much time, so I was not able to make it look the way I usually want my work to look like which is presentable.  But other than that I was happy with this new skill Jay taught us today.

Our last task was on a another video process but this time we was using an actual video which was 11 seconds and the reason why we had this video in our layer timeline is so it was able to draw over it. The video was of a guy break dancing  and I drew over him to portray a stick man animation of him doing the exact same thing he did. This is my outcome.

Animation Timeline

Animation gif on Photoshop, have multiple images above each other to make a moving image film.  As a graphic designer I will probably be asked to make a animation gif in the future, as in advertisement.

The first thing we looked at is how to make animation gifs with different frames. Then we looked into different levels in timeline animation Photoshop, different techniques that may be useful for me called hand drawn animation scans, video layers and video rotoscope.

The first thing I did was create a very simple animated gif, as you can see above, I used Photoshop, the width was 300, height was 100 and pixel aspect radio had to be used.  I clicked on window, timeline; create a frame animation, which is used to produce a gif.  The animation does not like the background layer, so it had to be disposed while another ones were created, thus to the layer being transparent.

I moved on to creating 10 layers, something different in each layer. I made them simple; we did not have much time to make them look appealing. Select all the layers and then click create frame animation and click toolbox, make frame layers. I am able to slow down the seconds, I selected 0.1 seconds, I learned that if I were to crate a banner for advertisement it would be 0.5, each text would be shown slower which allows the viewers to read.  Traditional animation work in 24 frames per second.

I settled out my animation gif in the composition, I would of preferred to make it more appealing. When I was done I saved it for web and this is my outcome.

Contextual Portfolio
Group 8 presentation- Molly, John, Patrick and Yanda

Group presentation

How did we work in a team?

My city in flux group presentation was today around 9:30. When it came to deciding our roles within the team we felt it best to have the designer and copywriter be Molly because she had access to the program and more experience with it. We decided that it would be best to present our work through a keynote presentation, and keep the layout simple throughout. We all decided to be presenting our own work because it was fair this way, despite that some of us were more confident in speaking to a large crowd than others. Each of us would fully explain our intentions and aims of our final piece. We all kept in contact in a group message and kept each other up to date with where we was up to on the group presentation, also sharing our work. Research was a vital part of the City in Flux project, as we all found it was where we gained most knowledge and inspiration towards our final piece. Our final pieces focus on different aspects of what could be seen as a ‘City in Flux’ and each are very diverse from each other.

My final outcome

My final idea was on urban fashion based in Leeds. Urban fashion is hugely influenced by urban culture, especially urban music. This peaked my interest in the relationship between fashion and music. There is wide range of people who wear urban fashion in Leeds so I was able to take all the photographs I needed. Lauren Goodwin’s work has always been inspiring to me hence the way I designed some of my pages was to reflect this appreciation. Using a rectangle utilising point, she designed three unique examples of dynamic forces. She also used a variety of the different tones through typography, which, to me, added meaning to her design. One of my favourite pages in my magazine is the with urban wear examples. This is mainly because the geometric shapes coincide well with the typography. The design splits the visual space vertically down the centre of the composition making it seem like a mirror image that joins to form a round plane.

After Effects

Final After Affect class

Title sequence working in 3D space

Today was our final after affect class. For our final class, we were going to experiment on after affect with 3D space, it could go very nicely with openings. We watched some example clips, i found
'Where did the night go' Seffen K on Vimeo and i thought that this video clip showed excellent quality but its about the rhythm in his work connecting with the sound. We are going to be doing our own clip, in our own style in terms and context. It could be a title, a word, it could be something relating to your work or just a short ten second animation. I chose to do a word.

We needed to prepare an artwork board, a HD document set up in illustrator. Each of the object needs to be contained and not out of the marge board. You need at least 10 layers, If you use text or object then make sure they all each need to be saved in separate layers. We are doing it all completely in our own style or an inspiration I liked.

I imported the illustrator experimentation into after affect, then selected composition retain layer sizes  because pressing 'ok' and the effect of that is Each of those subjects will be on the separate the files. Also make sure that illustrator /pdf is unselected. After importing my work, I move on to adjusting the settings of the composition to 1920 px and 1080 px, so it also matches the composition size I previously had on illustrator.  The 3D layer had to be selected for each layer; it allows manipulation in 3 dimensions. Then I moved on to playing around with Y Rotation, position and scale.

Texture to the background could enhance the work quality. I made sure it was copywrite and I went for cloud texture because I feel like it can relate to the word life. The texture i selected was from a website called texture and you could download the images for free. This was imported in to my work.
I selected layer option on the top left and click on Pre compose, then I selected the first option with also ‘new composition’ included, this created a new composition with the specific layer I selected. I then dropped the texture to the new composition as a layer and the texture needs to always be in the background while the object is on top. Toggle switches and modes, Alpha matt overlays the texture over my object, taking the objects shape. The effect of this new composition builds up the layers. One of the last techniques we learned is how to add on layer styles. I added on a drop shadow to 'I' and 'E' and an outer glow  on my cloud triangle.

In the end i changed my background colour into more uplifting mood. I was happy with my outcome, it turned out better than my other after affects clips, i think it may because i found this task more interesting, i learned different ways to enhance my work on after effect.
