Post modernism product furniture designer
Tree-trunk bench by Jurgen Bey
Jurgen Bey designed the tree-trunk bench in 1999. Jurgen Bey is not looking to ship these 300+ pound masses directly to your living room, even though you can still purchase, it will only be chair backs available for sale. Instead of sending the tree trunk down the wood chipper, the designer Jurgen Bey reclaimed the fallen tree trunk to transform it so it could serve as a seat. The designer formed three bronze classical chair backs into the drunks to create a proper piece of furniture. Combining the two together crosses between nature and our culture. His design is completely based on laser cutting and it was constructed from many parts.
This bench was designed so it will be placed in the park of Oranienbaum. Oranienbaum is a Russian royal residence, located on the Gulf of Finland west of St. Peterburg. The designer said 'Oranienbaum is a cultivated landscape in which nature and culture meet and influence each other, a protected area where the portraits of the eras have been frozen, and almost forgotten stories can survive. It is where souvenirs from all parts of the world have found a new place to stay and where guests have left their marks. The nice thing about these kind of places is that they are sort of collection of curiosities, a colourful mixture of objects that all tell their own story.' He wanted to share his unieuw design in Oranienbaum where many souvenirs from all over the world are placed to stay and share with the public.

Bey was invited for an interview on a daily design magazine called Delood, on the 12th of September 2013. He was asked by the interview Fanva Drogggitour, he was asked many question and one of them stood out to me was 'What does design mean for your? What is design in your life?' and he replied back saying 'Bringing parts of context further in development is important, so you can push reality, solve problems, or at least make changes in behavior Designing is like stringing beads: you have developed a theory and from there you choose a certain route, this path runs along the stories you collected. Some beads form a combination that has never occurred before and spark off an entirely new concept.' Bey's response gave me a sense that he believes in the post modernism, where you can push reality and solve problems. Post modernism artist and designers believe that there is so many options and so many problems to be solved. He believes that every design in this world can be brought together and when they are combined they could become an entirely new object and even a better one. I also believe that some of the objects combined could make a very impressive object which can become more stimulating hen their original forms.
