Exercise Interactive- Experimenting with Text
We was asked to produce a magazine Indesign on anything and in return we have our texts in columns because that way our teacher could see how we individually see type. He will then correct us later on in the lesson by teaching us the rules while using text on Indesign, what is right and what is wrong. We used balloon style text for our body text we can use in our exercise magazine work. I decided to do my magazine on Will Smith, how he went into more work after his successful TV show Fresh Prince of Bel Air. There was no set size the columns had to be like but I have to work out how big the actual columns will actually be that will determine how much space the column will have. I learned that If for instant I start the document in page one and it will start on the left then it will need to continue to the end. So you must find a way for the
text to stand out.

I learned the rules there are in for texts in indesign; Clean rags, leadings, columns Widths, quotes and typo River. Widow and Orphans this is where the paragraph continues to the next column. I also learned a lot about tracking, which basically means your going to take of the space between the words. I had to click on the bottom of VA to shorten the space, this cuts down the actual word used, so the paragraph doesn't split to the next column. The other alternative is A change the type or B change the type size. The average type size is 10 to 12 Pt. You can still use 11.9 11.8, so you don’t always have to go in number of sizes. Type size, can also be used to get rid of rivers or any widows. Kerning is where you elevate the space between the characters but this only applies if you use on headlines. How to adjust the kerning between the words Headline? If you put the curser you can press ALT+LEFT arrow key to recuse and ALT+RIGHT arrow key to increase.
If i wanted to make a small leaflet that you may find in museum or travel agent or tourist
information office. So what we going to do is create a style and apply them to
the text. Creating a new style, I needed to go on Type, character style and then
new paragraph style called ‘Bodytext’ then I went on “Basic character formats”
where you can create the style of your text. Then the next thing you need to do
is create the indent and spacing, so if someone is reading the text they will
actually know when the paragraph starts and ends. Alignment, Left justify which
will always have the left side going down straight. Next was creating Subhead,
and obviously we want our subhead to be different to the “Bodytext” so we
clicked on based on and clicked body text. Then Went on basic character format
and went on font style to click on bold. We moved on to go onto changing the
indent and spacing to 1m.
I was pleased with today's lesson because I
learned many different type style in this lesson with George. I think that I
got more tips in how to improve my InDesign work in the future and will
practise more in using these tips. I may also start to use some of the style on my electronic book for foundation work.
